SBT GRVL OTR 2024

What is On The Road? OTR events provide the opportunity to bring a micro-GRVL event to a local community to say thank you and raise awareness and financial contributions for advocacy groups that share our core values of inclusivity, growing cycling, and improving lives through the sport. We met hundreds of new riders across the country, raised money for advocacy partners like Ride for Racial Justice, and were able to bring 6 young riders from Bahati Foundation to Steamboat in August. This year we're going even bigger and have a full schedule planned from January through October:

EL GROUPO: ON THE ROAD IN TUSCON, AZ

~$500 was raised from the SBT GRVL x El Groupo ride. Just as importantly, many new donors were acquired by way of this event!

This money is being used to give need-based scholarships to families who face financial barriers to the sport of cycling. Last year 38% of our participants received need-based scholarships, and this year that number has risen and continues to rise with the start of our Summer Bike Camps!

From the El Groupo Team: “El Grupo is so grateful to have the support from SBT GRVL. Amy and Ryan are so supportive of our youth and the work that they do. Two of the girls and myself (thanks to RFRJ) will be at SBT GRVL this year and we look forward to sharing our story with SBT GRVL!”

BAHATI FOUNDATION: ON THE ROAD IN LOS ANGELES, CA

~$7,500 has been raised from 97 donors.

With the aim of making gravel racing more inclusive and accessible to children from inner-city communities, they rolled out the red carpet and sent these passionate youth to Steamboat, Colorado in 2023, where they experienced the thrilling SBT adventure.

Gravel racing has taken on a mind of its own and has become one of the premiere disciplines in cycling. As fun as they are, they aren’t as accessible to children from the inner city, so they launched Bahati UNPAVED.

BLACK GIRLS DO BIKE NYC ON THE ROAD IN NEW YORK CITY, NY

~$480 was raised from the BGDBNYC event in New York City.

The money is going to be used to support their green initiative of getting more women and children out of New York city and riding on gravel roads. They use funds to buy gravel tires, bike bags, bike lights, water bottles and more! It also helps offset the admission to rides and help with travel as they have usually have to take trains to get to gravel.

BIPOC women and children are the smallest demographic in gravel. By initiating Black Girls Gravel and creating a space where not only they’re seen (representation matters) but also where people can find beginner rides, training and support to women and children.
