Community Outreach
In the lead up to our 2024 event, the SBT GRVL team has dedicated extensive time and resources to work closely with the Steamboat community, Routt County representatives, local organizations, and event participants to minimize our impact on the Routt County community. We are committed to working closely with both residents and local agencies and have outlined the actions we have taken in an effort to keep the public up to date with our outreach, and changes for this year’s event.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT INITIATIVES

The SBT GRVL team has been engaging in dialogue to address concerns and provide information to residents along the 2024 race courses, including meetings with private landholders along the route.
The SBT GRVL team has hosted numerous Information Sessions in both North and South Routt County to update rural residents on the 2024 courses, share key information about race details, and educate residents about potential impacts during the event.
The SBT GRVL team has started visiting every resident along the 2024 courses and is aiming to make contact with all families that live on course before the August 18th event.
The SBT GRVL team has been actively reaching out to rural community members to discuss safety, liability, and stewardship measures.

In 2024 we welcome STARS, a local organization providing outdoor experiences for individuals with disabilities, as a new partner dedicated to empowering and enriching lives through adaptive recreational activities.
We are continuing our work with The Cycle Effect, a local organization committed to empowering young women through mountain biking to create brighter futures and build stronger communities and will once again be dedicating the proceeds from our Friday Night HLL CLMB to this influential non-profit.
We continue to partner with, and support, Routt County Riders, who tirelessly engage civically and advocate for trail diversity and road infrastructure improvements throughout the Yampa Valley and beyond.
In 2024 we are proud to partner with the local non-profit Routt County 4-H Scholarship Foundation and are collaborating with them to foster strong relationships between recreation and agriculture.
We continue to support Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Colorado, an organization we deeply value and support and they are a key local partner of SBT GRVL. They are committed to setting kids up for academic success throughout their lives through afterschool programs and mentorship.
Our Ride for Racial Justice partnership has entered its fourth year and has generated an industry leading movement to ensure access to resources, education, and community for BIPOC cyclists.
In 2024, we are honored to welcome DirtBound, our first para-cycling team, led by Annijke Wade, to Steamboat this August.
All Bodies On Bikes (ABOB), led by Marley Blonsky, is returning in 2024, and continues to be a cherished partner dedicated to promoting size inclusivity within the sport of cycling.
In 2024 From The Ground Up is bringing a new group of athletes to Steamboat to inspire cyclists of all ability levels to step outside of their comfort zones.

The SBT GRVL team met with Bicycle Colorado to strategize on improving the alliance between recreation and agriculture and enhancing cycling events statewide.
The SBT GRVL team meets regularly with our local advocacy partners to help collaborate and strategize ways to bring groups of people together to learn what this community needs and how large events can be executed safely and effectively while minimizing impact.
In 2024 SBT GRVL leadership founded a local advisory board of influential Routt County members that meets monthly to strategize and collaborate on ways to engage with the local community, foster positive relationships with landowners and rural residents, and create a model for how agriculture and recreation can co-exist.
SBT GRVL continues to work closely with Routt County GIS to ensure accurate and timely communication with residents along the race courses.
SBT GRVL continues to work closely with local government officials and law enforcement from both the County and the City to ensure that our race prioritizes public safety and stewardship.
SBT GRVL continues to hold regular information sessions for rural community members to provide updates and engage in open discussions about the event.

Since 2019, SBT GRVL has donated over $112K to local nonprofits. These nonprofits include: Boys and Girls Club, Routt County Riders, Community Ag Alliance, CCALT, Search and Rescue, Old Town Hot Springs, The Cycle Effect, Yampatika, Rotary Club of Steamboat Springs, Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, Colorado Gives, and Colorado United Way.
Members of the SBT GRVL team engage monthly with the community through teaching spin classes, giving motivational talks, volunteering with local partners, and meeting with key stakeholders.
In 2024 SBT GRVL continued their national fundraising events in partnership with El Grupo Youth Cycling, Bahati Foundation, Black Girls Do Bike, and KRT/QRT to support diversity within cycling and create fundraising opportunities to help allow athletes from these organizations to attend the local event.

In 2024 the Routt County Commissioners implemented a new large event permitting process and approved the new SBT GRVL event permits. This permit approval was based on SBT GRVL’s efforts to minimize impact on the local community by creating new routes, eliminating two-way rider traffic, increasing on course officials and utilizing Colorado State Patrol to direct the front of the race. SBT GRVL has complied with all requirements and submitted the necessary materials for the 2024 event.
The SBT GRVL team has communicated directly with residents, providing detailed information about event logistics, safety measures, and changes to prioritize community welfare. These communications have occurred through direct mail, information sessions, in-person 1-1 conversations, phone calls, and public forums.

SBT GRVL continues to engage with local organizations, including a partnership with the Routt County 4 H Club through our Heritage Sock design contest.
SBT GRVL recently held two information sessions in Hayden and Oak Creek, and is sending a series of newsletters to keep local businesses and residents informed about the race and related activities.
SBT GRVL has begun an on-course resident campaign and is on track to visit every on-course residence in person prior to August 18th.
The SBT GRVL team will be hanging posters and flyers throughout downtown businesses and throughout surrounding rural communities with event information and direct numbers to our command center communication line, where residents can report, address and respond to concerns during the event.

SBT GRVL will be featured in the Steamboat Pilot and on Steamboat Radio with informational ads and interviews leading up to the event.
Regular emails have been, and will continue to be sent to the entire local database to announce and notify businesses and individuals of important race week and race day information
Direct communications have been sent to Mainstreet Steamboat to notify all local businesses of event information and potential impact.
Three separate direct mailers have been sent to all 362 on course residences.
Direct communications will be sent to our local Steamboat Springs Chamber of Commerce.
Direct communications have been sent to all Yampa Street residents to notify them of important activity and road closures.
Information flyers will be distributed throughout local downtown businesses.

A visible public banner will be displayed above Lincoln Avenue starting August 12th to promote the event.
