ADVOCACY

Bike events are incredible experiences that bring together a community of people that share a passion for getting outside on two-wheels and exploring nature. We love the gravel family and are so excited to be able to interlace it with our incredible Steamboat Springs community! Below are a few things that we feel strongly about when it comes to community and the gorgeous lands that make it all possible. Click on the title for more information on each.

We are thrilled to work with some awesome local organizations who are doing great things in our community!

National Partners

  • Protect Our Winters

POW helps passionate outdoor people protect the land they love by promoting non-partisan policies designed to protect our world. In the future we envision, the world embraces renewable energy, electric transport, breakthrough technologies and market policies to achieve carbon neutrality by the mid-century.

We drive to crags, trailheads, and renewably powered ski areas in zero-emission vehicles; individuals and industries pay a fair price for their carbon footprint; and elected officials from all parties at all levels of government make addressing climate their top policy priority.

  • Ride for Racial Justice

Our mission in 2022 in partnering with SBT is to once again provide support for 25 BIPOC athletes from across the county to race SBT GRVL.

It’s not only support but an opportunity to bring a community together that has never had access to ride or race. The community of Steamboat embraced us and we in turn embraced them as well. And it’s not always about a race. It’s about a community, discussing real feelings, learning from each other, and respecting views that may be uncomfortable. But in the end, we’re riding, racing, smiling and enjoying something together—the simple joy of riding a bike. “Bikes equals Freedom.”

In 2021, Annijke sustained a spinal cord injury during a mountain bike accident. Now, she is back to sport and living as a full time wheelchair user. Outside of loving mountain biking & para off road cycling and being outdoors, Annijke also is passionate about making the outdoors and mountain biking a safe space for all. Sam Summers is a scientist at a small biotech company in Boulder, Colorado. Sam grew up in Maryland, but moved to Colorado to pursue graduate school and live in a place that fulfills her need for outdoor adventure. Sam’s hobbies include mountain biking, skiing, surfing, camping, and singing.
