At The Bud Werner Library Hall
The SBT GRVL team is excited to present our second annual FLM FST on August 16th, 2024 at the Auditorium Hall of the Bud Werner Library in Steamboat Springs. This year we are pulling together powerful and poignant films that celebrate “The Meaning of Ride.” Join us for an evening of watching films and meeting the creatives behind them coming together. See below for the films that will be featured. We hope to see you there!
THE RIGHT TO JOY
As a trans-masculine cyclist and policy scholar, Izzy Sederbaum was searching for community and acceptance within the sport. After surviving a rare cougar attack on a ride outside of Seattle in early 2018, Izzy was hospitalized with severe facial trauma while hateful anti-trans rhetoric filled comment sections of news articles that he had little to no control over. In the years since, he has struggled to overcome his anxiety of being alone in the woods and the self-doubt brought on by strangers after the attack. Despite these challenges, Izzy found solace and support in the Seattle cycling community, which reignited his passion for the sport. 'The Right to Joy' film follows Izzy’s journey as he navigates the aftermath of the attack, overcomes his fears, and becomes an advocate for diversity and trans inclusion within cycling communities across the country.
FINISH
"FINISH," is an awe-inspiring and heartwarming film by Adventure For All. Witness Riley, a remarkable young man with Autism and Tourette's pedals beyond expectations to conquer the challenging 31+ mile Big Sugar gravel bike race. This isn't just a story about cycling; it's a journey of courage, hope, and the shattering barriers. With the unwavering support of his mom and the dedicated team at Adventure For All, Riley's adventure redefines what's possible, turning every pedal stroke into a victory for him and everyone who believed in his endless potential. This film is about much more than a race; it's a testament to the strength of family, the spirit of adventure, and the boundless potential within us all. Get ready to be moved, inspired, and to believe in the magic of 'I can.'
Usufruct
Usufruct is a short film about three friends on an atypical bikepacking trip near Durango, Colorado. Instead of planning a route with the best riding or most scenic vistas, they opt to ride through burn zones and beetle kill areas, diving into the impact and implications that climate change is having on their home trails. Their goal is to learn what they can do—and what we all can do— to start to change the tide.
The Meaning of Ride
The Meaning of Ride follows three athletes from diverse backgrounds as they prepare for and compete at last year’s SBT GRVL race with individual goals of winning, healing, and saving lives. Named one of the "Top 10 Streaming Short Films" of the year by Outside Watch, we are pleased to present it on location in Steamboat as the featured FLM of 2024.
