2024 SBT GRVL Courses

This year we will be showcasing the rural scenic beauty of new regions of Routt County as we take riders on sections that they’ll find familiar from past years, as well as on entirely new sections that have been previously untouched by GRVL. Be prepared for more climbing on the Black and Blue courses than in past years, as well as loose and steep sections on the Black course that will test you physically and mentally as some of these roads have been recently graded by the County.

Pro tip: Size up when selecting Schwalbe tires, we do not recommend running anything under 40mm this year, and we highly recommend wearing mountain bike shoes, particularly on the Black Course, should you need to walk sections.

2024 SBT GRVL Black Course: 125.4 Miles | 10,897 feet | 88% Gravel

Don’t be fooled, while our new course is technically shorter than previous years it is even more challenging. We took a few paved miles off of the 2023 course and added about 800 feet of climbing, and we promise you will feel it! Not for the faint of heart, our updated course still includes plenty of the wide, smooth champagne gravel roads that you have come to love about SBT GRVL, but will also feature a few additional backcountry climbs like Wahooligan Pass, loose, steep, dusty and chunky terrain, and beautiful views of the more remote areas of Routt County. Some of these ascents and descents will seem a bit steeper and narrower than previous years, but the scenic views will be well worth the effort. Consisting of approximately 88% dirt, we believe this will be a very well rounded race course and a bucket list ride for all. Bring your easy SRAM gears, MTB shoes, and your technical skills—you will need them!  Course start time: 6:15am

We’re excited to officially reveal our 2024 SBT GRVL p/b Wahoo courses. In an effort to reduce the impact to our rural community we have waited until August to officially announce our routes. We kindly ask that if you are able to pre-ride the courses prior to August 18th, you observe our Rider Oaths and remember that we are all ambassadors for this sport we love. Wave, observe the rules of the road, smile and together we can all be good stewards of GRVL. We also ask that you please refrain from driving on the “Wahooligan Pass” section of the County Road 56. This road is very narrow, loose, steep, and not conducive to vehicle traffic, and unrelated to the event, has been the subject of recent grading. Please don’t attempt it, there’s a good chance you’ll get stuck. We’ve put this video together to give you a deeper understanding of this key segment from the comfort of your own home.

2024 SBT GRVL Blue Course: 99 Miles | 7,926 Feet | 84% Gravel

We’re keeping the same century mileage as last year, but have added nearly 1000 additional feet of climbing to up the challenge in 2024. This brand new Blue Course will have more of the champagne gravel you love and will share much of the Black Course route, while avoiding many of the short, punchy technical climbs of the longer 125 mile version. Get ready to rock, because we call this route GRVL’s Greatest Hits. With 84 miles of dirt roads, stunning views and unique scenery, this course offers one of the greatest gravel century experiences you’ll find anywhere. Course start time: 8:00am

2024 SBT GRVL Red Course: 56.7 Miles | 3953 feet | 56% gravel

The Red Course will tour the south side of Routt County this year, heading towards the town of Oak Creek.  The course splits its time between our famous champagne gravel and some rolling paved hills in ranch country, but will keep you on your toes by throwing in our famous and chunky Cow Creek finish. While the Red Course has more pavement than in previous years, it will be just as challenging and beautiful. Course start time: 6:45am

2024 SBT GRVL Green Course: 37 Miles | 2,000 Feet | 62% Gravel

A classic since 2019, our Green Course is the ideal introduction to the best riding in Routt County. Featuring just under 40 miles of scenic, rolling gravel roads, this course is open to e-bikes and accessible to all abilities, ages, and experience levels while still offering a little something for everyone. Whether you’re a first time gravel rider searching for a challenge, or experienced cyclist looking for a fun day out with a riding buddy, the Green Course just might become your new best friend. Course start time: 7:15am
